What I Do to Live Longer and Better
Disclaimer I am not a medical doctor and none of this is medical advice. Do this at your own risk and consult a medical professional before doing anything
Did you know that you could extend your life? You can live longer but most importantly live better and healthier.
This isn't another motivational or diet article. This is simply a results of adopting Efficienism principles in your life.
INSERT: Discover the Efficienism Elements
Let's cut the intro and get right into it.
1. Prevent Obvious Death Causes
Bear with me please, this sounds silly but it's actually pretty straightforward.
When I first thought about death, I thought my end will be as as old person, around 80ish years old and have a peaceful death. In all honestly, this sounds good. So as an efficienist I questioned this thought and I here's what I learned after some digging.
Top 10 causes of death
Statistically speaking, those are the reasons why people die
- Cardiovascular accidents
- Stroke
- Diabetes
- Diabetes
- Cancer
- Accidents
- Old age? NOPE!
Turns out, people don't die because of "old age". It's true that being old means you are more likely to get sick because your body is more fragile. But most of the causes of death in the list above are actually driven by chronic health conditions and they don't happen overnight.
Family risks factors
Due to genetic, environmental or other unknown causes. Direct family health conditions increase your risk of having the same problem.
If any of your direct family members has a chronic condition that can lead to any of the items in the list above then you need to actively make sure the same doesn't happen to you. The efficienist thing to do is to contact your doctor and teach yourself how that health condition works and how to avoid it.
2. Sleep Properly and Stay Hydrated
This is so obvious I couldn't avoid mentioning it. Again this is no medical advice but you cannot deny the importance of sleep and drinking water. If this is something new for you I encourage you to ask your doctor about them and read book such as "why we sleep" this goes deep and beyond and explains why sleep is so important
3. Do Regular Health checkups
If you can afford it, it can potentially save your life. Many people go untreated because many health conditions only show symptoms after you've had the problem for a while. For example my dad discovered accidentally that he has high blood pressure and it would have gone untreated for years otherwise.
4. Extending My Health With Knowledge
These are the things I do to keep myself informed. They say knowledge is power and it couldn't be more true here.
Fight again with books
I read books like Why We Age and Why We Don't Have To and it was eye opening
Reading My Blood Tests
With the help of my doctor I learned to better understand my blood tests results better which gave me insight about my health
Environment Impact
I did my own research and found interesting info on pollution, radiation, micro plastics and others. I now take
